We’re looking for artists who are committed to growing their craft and using their work to make an impact. You don’t need to be at a specific level, but you should be actively creating and open to learning, collaboration, and community. This application is open to our local Detroit and worldwide community who are 18 years old and above. If you’re passionate about music, dedicated to your development, and aligned with our mission, you’re encouraged to apply.

This scholarship covers full or partial tuition for one of our five courses of your choice. Awards are granted based on artistic potential, commitment to growth, and alignment with UMA’s values.

Priority goes to first-time applicants. If you’ve received a UMA scholarship before, see FAQ #9.

Applications will be available online during the open application period. You’ll be asked to share basic information about yourself, your artistic background, and examples of your work.Once applications open, follow the link on this page and complete the form before the deadline.

Applications are open from Monday, October 12th through Friday, October 16th at 11:59pm ET. Selected scholars will be announced on Monday, October 26th at 12:00pm ET.

Applications are reviewed and selected by the Underground Music Academy team, including instructors, program leaders, and members of our creative community.Each application is carefully considered to ensure a thoughtful and balanced cohort.

Selected participants are expected to actively engage in the program, attend all sessions, and contribute to the learning environment.

Scholarship priority goes to artists who haven’t received UMA support before, and recent recipients may not be eligible this round. You’re always welcome to enroll in any of our courses in the meantime.
