Instructor Bio
“This course will help to stop thinking of Ableton as software and start using it like an instrument. I built real confidence, learned how to shape ideas quickly, and finished a track I’m actually proud of.”
Kamau Baaqi is a Detroit based music producer, educator, and digital creator with deep roots in both the local underground and global electronic music scenes. With over a decade of experience as a performer (Tec-troit Festival, Mix Mag) and sonic explorer, his work bridges rhythmic innovation with experimental sound design.
As a longtime instructor at Underground Music Academy, Kamau has led multiple iterations of their Ableton Live curriculum, refining a hands on, loop based teaching style that emphasizes rhythm, accessibility, and creative confidence. Earlier this year, he contributed an original composition to Submerge Sessions Volume 1, further solidifying his place in Detroit’s lineage of boundary-pushing artists.
Kamau’s teaching philosophy centers on treating Ableton Live as a musical instrument inviting students to experiment, build intuitively, and grow through doing. His classes offer a welcoming space for new producers to develop both technical fluency and artistic identity from the ground up.
“Instead of theory, we’ll teach you how to actually make music in Ableton. The demos, practice, and exercises will give fluency, and technique.”
